Job Overview
The Power Market Analyst is a high-impact role at the centre of South Africa’s evolving electricity market. You will support electricity trading, pricing analysis, and strategic market entry as the South African Wholesale Electricity Market (SAWEM) develops.
This role combines analytics, strategy, and commercial execution, offering strong career growth in a dynamic energy environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. SAWEM Readiness & Market Design
- Analyse SAWEM rules, trading frameworks, and participation requirements
- Track global electricity market trends and apply insights locally
- Support Sasol’s market entry strategy and trading desk development
- Conduct scenario analysis and pricing risk assessments
2. Power Market Development
- Support development of trading and market positioning strategies
- Analyse customer demand and load profiles
- Stress-test commercial strategies under different scenarios
3. Regulatory & Policy
- Interpret regulatory and policy developments
- Support licensing and compliance requirements
- Provide insights for strategic decision-making
4. Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work with trading, finance, legal, and regulatory teams
- Prepare reports and presentations for leadership
5. Data & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain market data and analytical tools
- Improve reporting frameworks and methodologies
- Ensure data accuracy and audit readiness
Minimum Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree (3–4 years) in a relevant field
- Postgraduate qualification (advantageous)
Experience:
- 6+ years relevant experience
