 About the Opportunity

Sasol is offering an exciting 3-year Inspector In Training (NPE) programme for individuals passionate about engineering, inspection, and safety. This programme is accredited by the Southern African Institute of Welding (SAIW) and provides world-class technical training.

 Purpose of the Role

The programme prepares candidates to become certified inspectors responsible for:

  • Inspecting pressure equipment and steam generators
  • Ensuring safety and regulatory compliance
  • Conducting non-destructive testing (NDT)
  • Evaluating equipment integrity and performance

 What You Will Learn

  • Visual inspections and defect identification
  • Wall thickness measurements
  • Magnetic particle & dye penetrant testing
  • Radiograph interpretation
  • Pressure testing observation
  • Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) processes
  • High-tech NDT methods (UT, TOFD, PAUT, IRIS, Eddy Current, GUL, X-ray)
  • Technical reporting and compliance documentation

 Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with inspection of pressure vessels, piping, and steam generators
  • Support certification and compliance with PER regulations
  • Document inspection findings and recommendations
  • Evaluate equipment condition and predict maintenance needs
  • Participate in risk assessments and inspection planning
  • Ensure adherence to safety and quality standards

 Minimum Requirements

Education:

  • Grade 12 with minimum 50% in Pure Maths, Physical Science, and English
  • S4 qualification in Mechanical / Metallurgy / Welding Engineering (advantageous)

Other:

  • Driver’s license (advantageous)
