Job Purpose

The Artisan Grade 2 Mechanical Fitter will operate and maintain mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment, ensuring optimal plant performance, safety compliance, and adherence to maintenance systems.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance & Operations

• Operate and maintain mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment
• Perform routine maintenance tasks according to detailed procedures
• Troubleshoot technical issues and recommend solutions

Safety & Compliance

• Follow Safety Management Systems (IMS, MBO)
• Conduct hazard identification and risk assessments
• Apply emergency procedures and safety protocols

Planning & Reporting

• Participate in daily planning meetings and toolbox talks
• Provide feedback to supervisors on work progress
• Capture maintenance history and documentation

Teamwork & Leadership

• Support team goals and meet operational deadlines
• Mentor junior artisans and share technical knowledge
• Assist in developing work instructions and improving team competency

Continuous Improvement

• Participate in root cause analysis (RCA)
• Contribute to maintenance strategies and plant improvements
• Identify training needs and support personal development plans

Minimum Requirements

• Matric / N3 with Mathematics, English, and Physical Science
• Mechanical Trade Qualification (Red Seal)
• Minimum 3+ years relevant experience
