Sasol is hiring a Specialist Artisan Instrument Mechanician to support plant operations through maintenance, calibration, and instrumentation reliability.

 Purpose of the Role

To support production by ensuring equipment reliability, plant stability, and maintenance excellence through effective instrumentation and control systems work.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance inspections, alarm & trip testing
  • Calibrate and maintain instrumentation (flow, pressure, temperature, level)
  • Replace and configure transmitters
  • Maintain control systems and DCS hardware
  • Fault-finding, diagnostics, and system analysis
  • Maintain ESD (Emergency Shutdown) systems
  • Interpret loop drawings, logic diagrams, and technical documents
  • Conduct repairs and inspections on classified equipment
  • Install and commission instrumentation
  • Perform preventative maintenance and scheduling
  • Extract and analyze PLC data for troubleshooting
  • Use plant maintenance systems and documentation

 Minimum Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 (Maths, Science & English)
  • NQF Level 4 Trade Qualification
  • Red Seal Certification (Required)

Experience:

  • 4–5 years relevant experience in instrumentation/mechanical environment

Additional Requirements:

  • Valid Driver’s License (Code 8 minimum)
  • Own transport (required for standby duties)

  • Strong instrumentation & control systems knowledge
  • Fault-finding and troubleshooting ability
  • Knowledge of hazardous area standards (EX & IS)
  • Ability to read technical diagrams and data sheets
  • Planning and organisational skills
