 Purpose of the Role

The Manager: Mining Social Labour Plans & Mineral Charter will provide strategic leadership and governance to ensure compliance with Social and Labour Plans (SLP), Mining Charter, B-BBEE, and related legislation.

This role plays a critical part in maintaining Sasol’s social license to operate by building strong relationships with communities, regulators, and stakeholders.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the SLP department and team performance
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Social and Labour Plans (SLPs)
  • Ensure compliance with Mining Charter, MPRDA, and B-BBEE legislation
  • Manage audits conducted by the Department of Mineral Petroleum Resources (DMPR)
  • Oversee community development and Local Economic Development (LED) projects
  • Build and maintain relationships with government, municipalities, and communities
  • Prepare and submit regulatory reports and compliance documentation
  • Provide strategic advice to leadership and executive teams
  • Monitor legislative changes and recommend compliance strategies
  • Lead stakeholder engagement and negotiations with communities

 Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Commerce, or Social Sciences

Advantageous:

  • Admitted Attorney of the High Court
  • Postgraduate qualification (Law / Compliance / Social Sciences)
  • Master’s Degree

 Experience

  • 8–10 years’ relevant experience in:
    • Mining
    • Legal / Regulatory
    • Governance or Compliance

 Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong knowledge of:
    • MPRDA
    • Mining Charter
    • SLP Guidelines
    • B-BBEE legislation
  • Excellent drafting and reporting skills
  • Stakeholder engagement & negotiation expertise
  • Ability to advise executive leadership
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams
  • High attention to detail and compliance risk identification
