SIOC Community Development Trust (SIOC-CDT) invites learners and students from its beneficiary communities to apply for the 2027 SIOC-CDT Bursary Programme.

The bursary supports financially needy students pursuing post-matric studies at recognised public higher education institutions. The programme prioritises applicants from SIOC-CDT beneficiary communities in the Northern Cape and Limpopo.

Who Can Apply?

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Be a South African citizen.
• Be 35 years old or younger as at 30 November 2026.
• Have achieved an average pass mark of 65% or above based on the latest academic results.
• Have a gross household income of less than R600,000 per year.
• Be financially needy.
• Be a full-time student or applying to study full-time.
• Reside in or originate from one of the SIOC-CDT beneficiary communities:

• Have proof of acceptance, provisional acceptance, application or registration at a recognised public higher education institution.
• Applicants living with disabilities are encouraged to apply.

Important: The current application form specifically states that private higher education institutions will not be considered for the SIOC-CDT bursary.

What Does the Bursary Cover?

According to the official 2027 poster, the bursary fund covers:

• Registration fees
• Tuition fees
• Accommodation
• Prescribed study material
• Laptop once donation is received
• Monthly stipend
• Assistive devices for students with disabilities, where applicable

This makes it a substantial funding opportunity rather than tuition-only support.

Required Documents

Applicants should prepare the following documents:

1. Certified South African ID

The current application portal requires a certified copy of the ID that is not older than 3 months.

For an ID card, the front and back should be included.

2. Latest Academic Results

One of the following may apply:

• Grade 12 June results
• Grade 12 preliminary results
• University first-semester results
• Final academic results

The results must be certified and not older than 3 months.

3. Final NSC Results

Applicants who completed Matric before 2026 must provide a certified copy of their final NSC results.

4. Proof of Acceptance / Application / Registration

Applicants must provide appropriate proof from a recognised public higher education institution.

Depending on the applicant’s situation, this may be:

• Proof of acceptance
• Provisional or conditional acceptance
• Proof of application
• Proof of registration
• Current academic results

First-year applicants can submit proof of application or acceptance, while existing students need appropriate current registration/results documentation.

5. Proof of Residence

Recent proof of residence not older than 3 months is required.

Examples include:

• Utility bill
• Rates and taxes
• Water and electricity account
• Landlord letter
• Bank statement
• Affidavit from a local councillor

The document must reflect the applicant’s physical address or the relevant parent/guardian information.

6. Parent/Guardian Proof of Income

Applicants must provide recent proof of income for their parent(s) or guardian(s), where applicable.

This may include:

• Recent payslip
• Certified declaration of unemployment
• Affidavit confirming that the applicant has no parents/guardians
• SASSA grant recipient certificate

If two parents/guardians are listed, the required documentation must be provided for both.

7. Three Months’ Bank Statements

Three months’ bank statements are required for parent(s)/guardian(s).

The application portal states that:

• The full three months/90 days must be supplied.
• No pages may be missing.
• The name must correspond with the parent/guardian and proof of income.
• Separate statements are required for two parents/guardians where applicable.

8. Medical Documentation

Applicants living with a disability must provide a medical document confirming the type of disability.

Important Application Requirements

SIOC-CDT states that documents must be:

• Clear and legible
• Relevant
• In an accepted file format such as PDF or JPEG
• Not password protected
• Not editable documents such as Word files
• Not tampered with
• Correctly dated

Final Results Requirement

There is an additional requirement that is particularly important for current Matric students and students waiting for final results.

The online application states that the application is only complete once the applicant’s final results for the year have been submitted.
