 About the Bursary

The PRF, administered through the National Institute for Communicable Diseases, supports advanced research in virology to improve the health of the nation.

This bursary is aimed at postgraduate researchers pursuing a PhD in virology or related fields.

 Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be registered for a PhD degree
  • Have a minimum academic average of 60%
  • Submit latest academic records as proof
  • Be a South African citizen or permanent resident (preferred)

 Bursary Duration

  • PhD funding: Up to 3 years

 Application Requirements

  • Latest academic transcript
  • All required supporting documents
  • Grants Application Signatory Form (download and upload)

 Important Notes

  •  Applications must be submitted on or before the deadline
  •  Late applications will NOT be accepted
  •  All sections of the form must be completed
  •  Missing documents may result in disqualification

 Post-Study Requirements

After completing your PhD:

  • Submit a Final Bursary Form
  • Provide:
    • Proof of graduation
    • List of research publications
