 About the Grant

The PRF, administered through the National Institute for Communicable Diseases, provides funding for high-impact virology research projects.

This grant is aimed at established researchers with a strong track record of independent, innovative research.

 Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Hold a PhD or equivalent qualification
  • Have a strong publication record
  • Demonstrate experience in independent research
  • Submit a high-impact research proposal

 Funding Details

  •  Up to R500,000 per annum
  •  Maximum funding period: 3 years
  •  Limited number of grants awarded annually

 Application Requirements

  • Motivation demonstrating impact and merit
  • Supporting documentation
  • Grants Application Signatory Form (signed and uploaded)

 Important Notes

  •  Only high-impact projects will be considered
  •  Applications must be submitted before the deadline
  •  Late applications will NOT be accepted
  •  All required documents must be included

 Post-Project Requirements

After completing the project:

  • Submit a Final Report Form
  • Acknowledge PRF in all research publications
