 About the Company

Sasol is a leading global energy and chemical company with over 75 years of expertise. Sasol focuses on operational excellence, safety, and employee growth while fostering a culture that values diversity and continuous improvement.

 Purpose of the Role

Drive turbomachinery control system optimisation and PI AF Dashboard performance monitoring to minimise downtime and improve efficiency and stability across compressor and turbo assets. Lead data-driven risk, health, and operating limit assessments, ensuring compliance with API 612/617/618/619/670 standards.

This role focuses on engineering, controls, analytics, commissioning, and governance—not routine maintenance.

 Key Responsibilities

 Controls & Engineering

  • Optimise anti‑surge, station/master, valve characterisation, load balancing, and permissive/ESD control strategies (API 617/670)

  • Conduct structured fault-finding and root-cause analysis (oscillations, surge-hunting, nuisance trips)

  • Specify rotating equipment controls, interlocks, measurement placement, and HMI/alarm narratives

  • Plan and support commissioning, surge tests, and operating envelope alignment

  • Implement engineering solutions to enhance availability, efficiency, and productivity

 PI AF Dashboard & Analytics

  • Develop and maintain PI AF Dashboard models and visualisations for key KPIs (stability, surge proximity, recycle %, performance indices)

  • Address data gaps, ensure visibility, and correlate control actions with asset performance

  • Develop repeatable analytical methods using Python, R, MATLAB, or similar

 Collaboration & Governance

  • Work with Mechanical, Process, and Electrical teams to ensure controls readiness

  • Build improvement cases, implement upgrades, and track measurable benefits (power, steam, flare, throughput)

  • Maintain discipline systems, procedures, and policies; oversee change-control processes and deviation registers

  • Mentor and guide engineers and technicians within C&I and related disciplines

 Qualifications

  • University BSc or B Eng in Electrical, Electronic, or Control Engineering

  • ECSA Registered Professional Engineer (Wish)

 Experience

  • 8+ years relevant experience in instrument & control engineering for rotating machinery, turbomachinery, or process plants

  • Proven experience in control system optimisation, fault-finding, analytics, and dashboard development
