Job Overview

Boxer Superstores is looking for a Retail Operations Accountant to support operational performance through financial analysis and reporting.

This role is ideal for a finance professional who enjoys analysing data, working with internal stakeholders, and turning financial insights into practical operational improvements.

The successful candidate will report directly to the Group Executive for Operations.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

Applicants must meet one of the following:

• Recently qualified CA(SA) with minimum 1 year post-articles experience in accounting, FP&A, audit, retail finance, or business analysis.
  OR

• CIMA (part-qualified or qualified) with minimum 2 years experience.
  OR

• BCom Honours / BAcc / Finance Honours with strong academic performance and minimum 3 years experience in accounting, FP&A, audit, retail finance, or business analysis.

Preferred Skills & Knowledge

• Strong experience with management accounts and variance analysis

• Ability to interpret financial performance drivers

• Exposure to retail operations metrics (advantageous)

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Ability to translate financial analysis into operational insights

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Analysis

• Produce weekly and monthly operational performance reports.

• Analyse key drivers and variances against budget, prior year, and benchmarks.

• Identify patterns and early warning trends in performance.

Dashboard & KPI Management

• Develop and maintain an Operations financial dashboard.

• Define KPIs and data governance standards.

• Automate reporting processes and improve data quality.

Business Insights & Decision Support

• Convert financial data into clear insights and recommendations.

• Prepare performance packs and facilitate discussions with operational teams.

• Create simple, actionable visuals for non-financial managers.

Operational Support

• Support cost control and productivity initiatives (labour, utilities, waste, repairs).

• Partner with operations leaders to set targets and track initiatives.

• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and capital expenditure evaluations.

Investigations & Commercial Analysis

• Conduct root-cause investigations on issues such as shrinkage, markdowns, and wastage.

• Provide ad hoc financial analysis to support operational decision-making.
