Purpose of the Job
To safely operate process equipment and systems at the Komatipoort Compressor Station in order to achieve production targets within the Sasol operational environment.
Key Responsibilities
Plant Operations
-
Operate plant processes according to standard operating procedures (SOPs)
-
Perform start-ups and shutdowns safely
-
Commission and decommission plant equipment
-
Conduct sampling for quality testing and troubleshooting
-
Load and off-load hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals
Inspection & Maintenance
-
Inspect valves, pumps, vessels, and related equipment
-
Complete safety checklists and compliance procedures
-
Identify and correct abnormal plant conditions
-
Conduct fault finding and incident investigations
-
Assist in reviewing and improving SOPs
Safety & Compliance
-
Adhere to SHERQ standards and legal requirements
-
Follow Permit-to-Work (PtW) procedures
-
Issue permits where required
-
Conduct basic risk assessments
-
Lead emergency response exercises when required
-
Report hazardous conditions and unsafe deviations
Administration & Reporting
-
Load and prioritise SAP notifications
-
Exchange process information during shift handovers
-
Maintain accurate log sheets
-
Complete required training according to the training matrix
Minimum Qualifications
✔ Grade 12 with Mathematics, Science & English OR N3 Certificate (Essential)
✔ NQF Level 4 Certificate in Chemical Operations (Essential)
✔ Valid Driver’s Licence – Code 08 (Essential)
Experience Required
✔ Minimum 3+ years relevant experience in a similar environment
✔ Permit-to-Work (PtW) issuing competency
✔ Safety Standby and Gas Monitoring experience
✔ Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety (OSH) Act
✔ Computer literacy
✔ Basic hand tool proficiency
