Job Overview

A leading project in the petrochemical sector is seeking a highly experienced Principal Engineer – Portfolio Lead to drive engineering excellence and lead project delivery in Secunda.

This role requires a strong technical leader with experience in civil engineering, project execution, and team leadership, ensuring projects are delivered to high standards, within budget, and aligned with client expectations.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering Excellence

  • Apply strong technical expertise to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.

  • Ensure compliance with engineering standards and client expectations.

  • Perform necessary administrative and reporting duties.

Project Implementation

  • Manage full project execution including vendors and subcontractors.

  • Ensure projects meet quality, timeline, and financial targets.

  • Comply with project systems and processes.

Business Development

  • Support marketing initiatives and business growth.

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships.

  • Identify and pursue new opportunities.

Cost & Financial Management

  • Manage project budgets and financial performance.

  • Optimize resource utilization for cost efficiency.

Strategy & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure adherence to quality management systems (QMS).

  • Identify and resolve project issues promptly.

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Maintain effective communication with clients.

  • Ensure high levels of client satisfaction and trust.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead engineering teams and foster collaboration.

  • Motivate, mentor, and develop team members.

  • Promote a positive and productive work environment.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

  • BSc / BEng in Civil Engineering

  • Registered Professional Engineer (ECSA)

Experience

  • Minimum 10+ years’ experience in engineering

  • Proven experience in civil infrastructure or structural engineering

  • Experience in an industrial or petrochemical environment (advantageous)

  • Experience managing engineering teams and projects

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong understanding of complex engineering problems

  • Project management and planning skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project tools

  • Knowledge of QMS and engineering standards

  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
