Job Purpose

The Petshop Science Manager is responsible for managing the Pet Science store operations while maintaining the Checkers Pet Science brand image. The role focuses on achieving sales targets, managing staff and stock, ensuring legal compliance, and maximising store profitability while delivering excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities

Store Operations & Sales

• Ensure sales and profit targets are achieved.

• Maintain the overall performance and profitability of the store.

• Ensure store operations align with company standards and brand image.

Staff Management

• Manage employee scheduling and forecasting.

• Supervise and support staff to ensure high productivity.

• Ensure continuous staff training and development.

Inventory & Stock Management

• Manage stock and inventory according to company policies.

• Maintain accurate stock ledger and stock control processes.

• Oversee merchandising and product displays.

Customer Experience

• Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction and service delivery.

• Build strong relationships with customers and provide product advice.

Compliance & Administration

• Ensure compliance with labour laws and company policies.

• Implement security and operational procedures.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

• Grade 12 / Matric Certificate (Essential)

• Degree or Diploma in a related field (Advantageous)

Experience

• Minimum 2 years management experience in a pet store environment.

• Experience managing inventory, staff, buying, merchandising, and store profitability.

Knowledge & Skills

Industry Knowledge:

• Pet nutrition

• Pet grooming products

• Pet toys and accessories

• OTC / alternative medication for pets

• Knowledge of different pet types

Skills:

• Excellent communication skills

• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills

• Computer literacy

• Strong stock management and inventory control
