Job Overview

The Occupational Health Practitioner (OHP) is responsible for maintaining occupational health standards in line with company policies, the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), and other related legislation.

The role involves ensuring workplace safety compliance, managing occupational health programmes, supporting employee wellness initiatives, and conducting medical assessments. The position includes extensive travel to corporate stores within the region, and a company car and petrol will be provided.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

  • Matric / Grade 12

  • Professional Nursing Qualification

  • Occupational Health Nursing Qualification registered with SANC

  • Currently registered and in good standing with SANC

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in Occupational Health Nursing

Additional Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Strong knowledge of OHS Act and COID Act

Key Responsibilities

Occupational Health & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with OHS legislation and company safety policies.

  • Monitor and investigate Injuries on Duty (IOD) and identify trends.

  • Advise store managers on health and safety risks.

  • Compile and submit monthly safety and incident reports.

  • Ensure compliance with first aid requirements and medical waste procedures.

  • Participate in Health & Safety committee activities.

Occupational Nursing

  • Conduct risk-based baseline medical examinations.

  • Perform exit medicals for employees leaving designated roles.

  • Provide first aid and manage workplace injuries.

  • Respond to customer medical emergencies.

  • Support managers with employee health-related queries.

Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)

  • Facilitate HIV/AIDS voluntary counselling and testing (VCT).

  • Organise peer educator training and awareness programmes.

  • Provide support to employees with chronic medical conditions.

  • Refer employees to external support organisations when necessary.

  • Facilitate trauma counselling and employee wellness programmes.

Administration

  • Compile and submit monthly Occupational Health Practitioner reports.

  • Maintain confidential medical records and documentation.

  • Assist employees with disability, UIF, and medical documentation.

  • Monitor OHP budget and administrative processes.

  • Ensure proper disposal of medical waste.
