Purpose of the Role
To operate licensed underground mining machinery safely and efficiently within the Sasol Mining environment to achieve production targets while maintaining strict adherence to safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Operation
-
Operate one licensed underground mining machine (Roof Bolter, Shuttle Car, Continuous Miner, Pump, or Tractor)

Complete pre-operational safety checklists
-
Demonstrate skill and competency in machine operation
-
Execute daily production tasks according to schedule
Safety & Compliance
-
Conduct visual inspections of working environment
-
Identify and report abnormal or unsafe conditions
-
Apply Mine Health & Safety Act requirements
-
Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) & Codes of Practice (COP)
-
Apply roof and sidewall control measures
-
Participate in emergency preparedness processes
Mining Operations Knowledge
-
Mining processes and methods
-
Mine infrastructure
-
Water reticulation systems
-
Ventilation systems
-
Machine & equipment management
-
Gas testing (5 gases)
-
Knowledge of major hazards and critical controls
Work Standards

Minimum Qualifications
✔ National Senior Certificate / N3 (or equivalent)
✔ Valid Mining Operating Licence
✔ Competent B Certificate (Required for Roof Bolter operators)
✔ Gas Testing Certification (5 gases)
✔ Must pass medical examination
✔ Clear security clearance
Experience Required
✔ Minimum 1+ year coal mining underground experience
