Purpose of the Role
To support KZN gas pipelines by performing electro-mechanical maintenance, ensuring equipment reliability, and improving plant and mining sustainability—all while adhering to safety procedures and engineering standards.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Operations
-
Perform electro-mechanical maintenance on Pressure Reduction Stations (PRS), High Pressure Customer Metering Station (HPCMS), and Customer Metering Stations (CMS)
-
Conduct statutory inspections, calibrations, and repairs
-
Capture maintenance history and spares replacement data
-
Participate in general plant outages, emergency repairs, and breakdown response
-
Interpret mechanical flow diagrams, electrical and instrument diagrams
Continuous Improvement & Safety
-
Apply emergency and safety procedures during maintenance and operations
-
Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and provide feedback
-
Maintain compliance with Safety Management Systems (IMS, MBO, etc.)

Participate in toolbox talks, morning meetings, and continuous improvement initiatives
-
Mentor junior artisans and learners
Teamwork & Field Support
-
Travel to remote areas in KZN for maintenance and emergency response
-
Operate crane trucks and rig small loads (>5000kg)
-
Provide stakeholder and service provider management support
Qualifications
Mandatory:
-
Grade 12 with Maths, Science, and English OR N3 Maths & Engineering Science

Millwright Trade Test Certificate
-
Valid Code 10 Driver’s License (PDP required)

Tool of Trade: Electro-mechanic artisan toolkit
Advantageous (Wish/Preference):
-
NQF4 Certificate in Mechanical/Electrical/Instrumentation
Experience
-
Minimum 3 years of relevant electro-mechanical experience
-
Competency in PtW issuance, safety standby, gas monitoring, and OSH Act requirements
-
Computer literacy
-
Knowledge of earthing systems, alarm systems, cathodic protection, NACE CP1 certification
