SACTA NPC Postgraduate Bursary (Honours, Masters & PhD) – South Africa

The SA Cultivar & Technology Agency (SACTA) is inviting eligible students to apply for postgraduate bursaries to further their studies in the grain and oilseeds breeding and technology industry in South Africa.

SACTA supports research and innovation aimed at improving seed technology, genetic development, and competitiveness of South Africa’s grain and oilseed sector.

 Opening & Closing Dates

  • Applications open: 01 September

  • Closing date: 30 September (annually)

Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

 Fields of Focus

SACTA bursaries support studies related to the following crops and industries:

  • Wheat

  • Barley

  • Oats

  • Soya Beans (Soybeans)

  • Lupin cultivars

  • Grain and oilseed breeding

  • Seed technology and agricultural innovation

 Who Can Apply

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Must be a South African citizen

  • Must be admitted to study full-time at a recognised institution

  • Bursaries are awarded for:

    • Honours

    • Masters

    • Doctoral (PhD) studies

  • Field of study must be relevant to the South African breeding and technology industry

  • Applicants may not receive alternative funding from other sources

  • Dissertation or thesis proposal must be approved by SACTA before studies commence

  • A supervisor must be appointed by the institution and approved by SACTA

  • Successful applicants will be required to work in the South African grain and oilseeds breeding and technology industry for the same period that funding was received

 Required Supporting Documents

Applicants must submit the following:

  • Completed SACTA bursary application form

  • Certified copy of South African ID or passport

  • Updated Curriculum Vitae (CV)

  • Latest academic transcript on official institution letterhead

  • Proof of registration and fee statement (if available)

 Incomplete applications may result in disqualification.

 Bursary Value

  • Annual bursary amounts are determined by SACTA each year

  • Funding is subject to availability and approval

 Additional Information

  • A formal bursary agreement will be signed if funding is awarded

  • Students must inform their supervisors that they are registered under the SACTA Bursary Scheme

  • SACTA promotes long-term sustainability and competitiveness in South Africa’s grain and oilseed industries
