Marula Mine (Implats) Bursary Programme 2026

Marula Mine, a subsidiary of Impala Platinum Holdings Limited (Implats), is inviting eligible students from local Limpopo communities to apply for its 2026 Bursary Programme. The bursary aims to support talented students pursuing studies in mining, engineering, and related fields.

Marula Mine is located in Limpopo and forms part of Implats, one of the world’s leading producers of platinum group metals.

Bursaries will be awarded for studies in the following fields:

  • Chemical Engineering

  • Electrical Engineering

  • Geology

  • Human Resources

  • Mechanical Engineering

  • Metallurgical Engineering

  • Mining Engineering

  • Mining Survey

What the Marula Bursary Covers

The bursary provides funding for:

  • Registration and tuition fees

  • University accommodation (residence)

  • Meals

  • Cash allowance

  • Mentorship support

  • Personal computer (from second year of study)

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Must reside in a local community in Limpopo province

  • Must have completed Matric with a university exemption

  • Must be studying or intending to study in one of the approved fields

  • Must be studying or accepted at one of these universities:

    • University of Cape Town (UCT)

    • University of Johannesburg (UJ)

    • University of Pretoria (UP)

    • North-West University (Potchefstroom)

    • University of the Witwatersrand (Wits)

    • University of Limpopo (UL)

  • Minimum C symbol in:

    • English

    • Mathematics

    • Physical Science

  • Minimum 60% average if currently at university

  • Must be medically fit

  • Must demonstrate leadership potential, teamwork, problem-solving and communication skills

Preference will be given to candidates from designated groups, in line with the Employment Equity Act.

Required Documents

Submit certified copies of:

  • South African ID

  • Matric certificate

  • Full tertiary academic record (if currently studying)

  • Proof of university acceptance (if available)

  • Proof of residence

Do not submit original documents – copies only.

Selection Process

  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview

  • Psychometric assessments will follow after submission of university admission letter

  • If no feedback is received within 30 days after closing, consider the application unsuccessful
