Maize Trust Postgraduate Bursary (Masters & PhD) – South Africa

The Maize Trust is inviting eligible students to apply for postgraduate bursaries (Masters and Doctoral studies) aimed at supporting research and development within the South African maize industry.

The Trust focuses on strengthening market access, production research, and long-term competitiveness of the maize industry in South Africa.

 Opening & Closing Dates

  • Applications open: 01 September

  • Closing date: 30 September (annually)

Late applications will not be considered.

 Who Can Apply

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Must be a South African citizen

  • Must be admitted to study full-time at a recognised institution

  • Bursaries are only awarded for:

    • Masters studies

    • Doctoral (PhD) studies

  • Field of study must be relevant to the South African maize industry

  • Applicants may not receive other study-related funding, unless approved in writing by the Trust

  • Dissertation or thesis proposal must be approved by the Maize Trust before studies commence

  • A supervisor must be appointed by the university and approved by the Trust

  • Successful applicants will be required to work in the South African maize industry for the same period that funding was received

 Required Supporting Documents

Applicants must submit:

  • Completed Maize Trust bursary application form

  • Certified copy of South African ID or passport

  • Updated Curriculum Vitae (CV)

  • Latest academic transcript on official institution letterhead

  • Proof of registration and fee statement (if available)

 Incomplete applications may be rejected.

 Bursary Value

  • Annual bursary amounts are determined by the Maize Trust each year

  • Funding is awarded based on available funds and merit

 Additional Information

  • A formal bursary agreement will be signed if funding is awarded

  • Students must inform their supervisor that they are registered under the Maize Trust Bursary Scheme

  • The Trust funds transformation and development initiatives within the maize sector
