The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health is inviting eligible students to apply for their Bursary Programme for the 2026 academic year.
This bursary is aimed at KwaZulu-Natal residents studying in health-related fields identified as scarce skills by the Department of Health.

Applicants are advised to collect and submit forms as early as possible.
Who Can Apply
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

Must be from KwaZulu-Natal

Must have a good academic record
-
Must have proof of application or registration at a recognised tertiary institution

Must not be receiving another bursary
-
Must not already have a qualification
-
Field of study must appear on the official KZN Department of Health bursary poster for your district
Important:
You may only apply for a bursary if your field of study is listed on the poster displayed at health institutions in your district.
How to Apply (VERY IMPORTANT)
Application forms are NOT available online.

Obtain the KZN Department of Health Bursary Application Form from the
nearest Government Hospital to your FAMILY HOME in KwaZulu-Natal. -
Do NOT collect the form from a hospital near where you stay while studying.

Return the FULLY COMPLETED application form to the same hospital where it was collected.
Forms collected from the wrong hospital may result in disqualification.
What the Bursary Covers (Based on Household Income)
Funding is allocated on a sliding scale according to parents’ income:

R0 – R120 000: Tuition, meals, books & accommodation

R121 000 – R150 000: Tuition, meals & accommodation
-
R151 000 – R200 000: Tuition, accommodation & books
-
R201 000 – R250 000: Tuition & accommodation
-
R251 000 – R300 000: Tuition only
