City of Cape Town External Bursary (2027)

Overview

The City of Cape Town offers financial support to students to help cover study-related costs such as registration, exams, and class fees.

 Application Deadline

  • Closing Date: 17 August 2026
     Late applications will not be accepted

 Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Be a resident of Cape Town
  • Be registered for full-time study at an accredited South African institution (including TVET colleges)
  • NOT be receiving other funding (e.g. NSFAS)
  • Study in a scarce skills field identified by the City

 Required Documents

  • Certified copy of ID (not older than 3 months)
  • Grade 12 results (minimum 65% average if currently in matric)
  • Academic transcripts (if already studying)
  • Proof of registration or provisional acceptance
  • Matric certificate (if completed)
  • Proof of residence
  • Recommendation letters (teachers/mentors/peers)
  • Awards/certificates
  • Any relevant work/portfolio in your field

  • Examination fees
  • Class/tuition-related costs

  • Successful applicants will be contacted
  • If no response by 15 January 2027, consider your application unsuccessful
