Lephalale Municipality Mayoral Bursary Fund 2026

The Lephalale Local Municipality invites matriculants and first-year undergraduate students to apply for the Mayoral Bursary Fund for the 2026 academic year.
This bursary aims to support students from Lephalale who wish to further their studies in scarce and priority skills that contribute to the development of the municipality.

About the Lephalale Municipality Mayoral Bursary Fund

Lephalale is one of the fastest-growing towns in Limpopo due to coal mining, electricity generation, and industrial expansion. The Mayoral Bursary Fund was established to empower local youth to play a leading role in the municipality’s future development.

Fields of Study Covered

The bursary is available for students pursuing studies in the following fields:

  • Financial Studies

  • Civil Engineering

  • Electrical Engineering

  • Mechanical Engineering

  • Chemical Engineering

  • Town and Regional Planning

  • Mining-related studies

  • Other recognised scarce skills

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Must be a resident of Lephalale Local Municipality

  • Open to matriculants and first-year undergraduate students

  • Must demonstrate consistent good academic performance

  • Parents or guardians must be unemployed or classified as indigent

  • Shortlisted candidates will undergo psychometric assessments and interviews

  • Tertiary students must submit a comprehensive CV

What the Bursary Covers

The Mayoral Bursary Fund covers:

  • Tuition fees

  • Accommodation

  • Meals

  • Prescribed books (for the most needy students only)

 A means test may be conducted, including home visits, to determine financial need.
Final bursary approval is subject to proof of tertiary acceptance and registration.

Completed application forms must be accompanied by:

  • Letter of motivation

  • Latest academic results

  • Certified copy of applicant’s ID

  • Certified copies of parents’/guardians’ IDs

  • Proof of household income or affidavit if unemployed

  • Proof of residential address

  • Proof of tertiary acceptance (if available)
